I’ve finally gotten over myself about hating the word blog and started one of my own. We’ll see how long it lasts. For those of you who aren’t familiar with written music, senza sord indicates that the musicians should remove the mutes from their instruments. Senza sord is the default for just about every musical instrument, except maybe the horn, whose players keep their fists firmly implanted in the bells of their instruments unless some nutjob like Mahler instructs them, auf Deutsch, that they really ought to get their hands out of there, and maybe stand up and play even louder.
